Themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the event honored the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition of the same name, focusing on Black dandyism and its influence on fashion.

“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” explored the significance of sartorial style in forming Black identities. The exhibition, open from May 10 to October 26, 2025, showcased the evolution of Black fashion from the 18th century to the present, highlighting the artistry and cultural impact of Black tailoring traditions.

The gala was co-chaired by Anna Wintour, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair. The host committee included notable figures such as André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Dapper Dan, and Janelle Monáe, reflecting the event's commitment to diversity and cultural representation. 

Fashion Highlights

The “Tailored for You” dress code inspired attendees to embrace menswear-inspired ensembles and pay homage to Black dandyism. Zendaya captivated in a Louis Vuitton zoot suit designed by Pharrell Williams, while Diana Ross made a grand return in a self-designed white crystal-embellished gown with a feathered cape. 

Rihanna announced her third pregnancy in a Marc Jacobs suit-inspired corset dress, and Lewis Hamilton stood out in a silk tailcoat adorned with embroidery, designed by Wales Bonner. 

Cultural Tributes

Many attendees drew inspiration from iconic Black figures. Zendaya channeled Bianca Jagger, while Gigi Hadid paid homage to Josephine Baker and designer Zelda Wynn Valdes. Colman Domingo honored André Leon Talley with a royal blue Valentino cape, and Jodie Turner-Smith's equestrian-inspired Burberry outfit referenced 19th-century equestrian Selika Lazevski. 

Notable Moments

The event featured several memorable moments, including a “White Lotus” reunion with Aimee Lou Wood and Patrick Schwarzenegger, and the red carpet debut of Dua Lipa and Callum Turner as a couple. Additionally, Shah Rukh Khan became the first male Bollywood star to attend the Met Gala, marking a significant milestone for Indian representation at the event.
