Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" is the highly anticipated eighth installment in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, with Tom Cruise reprising his iconic role as Ethan Hunt. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film is scheduled for theatrical release on May 23, 2025. ​

This sequel continues the narrative from "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning," focusing on Ethan Hunt and his team as they confront a formidable rogue artificial intelligence known as "The Entity," controlled by the villain Gabriel, portrayed by Esai Morales. The plot centers on the team's mission to recover crucial source code hidden in a sunken Russian submarine, with global stakes at risk. ​

The ensemble cast features returning actors Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, and Hayley Atwell as Grace. New additions include Hannah Waddingham and Tramell Tillman, whose roles add fresh dynamics to the storyline. 

In line with the franchise's reputation for high-octane action sequences, the film showcases Tom Cruise performing daring stunts, including scenes of him dangling from a plane and jumping off aircraft carriers into icy waters. ​

"Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" is set to premiere out of competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 14, marking Tom Cruise's third appearance at the prestigious event.
